Schoolhouse is a lighting and lifestyle goods company dedicated to the preservation of American manufacturing, thoughtful living, and purposeful design. From iconic lighting to one-of-a-kind homewares, many of our products are designed, assembled, and shipped within the walls of our Portland factory.

Our Inspiration

We have an innate affection for pieces with a past and believe that something worth owning now is worth owning forever. At School house, we believe in the enduring relationship & rich heritage of American craft and mass production. By drawing on designs with timeless appeal, we seek to reimagine the familiar.

Our Factory

Inside a century-old building in Portland, Oregon, our obsession with quality has compelled us to produce modern heirlooms the old-fashioned way. Here we design our collections, assemble our lighting, ship our finished creations, and most importantly, dream of what’s next while working together to create something bigger than ourselves. Many hands work to bring each of our products to life, all under one roof.

Inspired by the quality of vintage quilted jackets, the Channeled Cotton Sham is a comfortable and durable piece for everyday use. Handcarved Tea Light Carousel

Handmade in Germany by artisanal makers using 100-year-old techniques, these hand-carved figures warmly welcome the holiday season while they dance in the glow of a charming tea-light candle flame. Crafted from lightweight maple and limewood, the heat from the candles will cause this whimsical whirligig to turn in gentle circles atop your tablescape.

American mid-century designer Milo Baughman, the Milo Sofa is a celebration of proportion, simplicity, and comfort. Designed for a relaxed, medium-soft seating experience, our cushions feature high resiliency foam, ensuring they maintain their shape even with frequent use. For an extra layer of plush softness, the back cushions are thoughtfully filled with hypoallergenic Trillium fiber. The sofa’s frame is meticulously constructed from kiln-dried hardwood, utilizing interlocking mortise and tenon joints for enhanced stability. Handmade in California, each fabric has been meticulously curated for their beauty, texture, and durability. A Schoolhouse Original.

Cushions:

Seat cushions use 2.0 ILD high-resiliency foam for a medium soft sit. This foam will soften over time, but will maintain its buoyancy even after years of heavy use.

Back cushions are constructed using a hypoallergenic Trillium fiber fill for extra softness. Trillium fiber is preferred for its ability to mimic the feel of natural down, but without the eventual collapse or escaping feathers.
